Home Sewing Lessons

At Mobile Sewing Tutor, we understand that not everyone can make it to our Training Room for lessons. That's why we offer personalized sewing lessons in the comfort of your own home. Whether you have Mobility issues, a busy schedule, family commitments, or simply prefer learning in a familiar environment, then our Home lessons are the perfect solution for you, however read below before making your booking.

What Do I Need for At Home Lessons?

To make the most out of our At Home lessons, you'll need to have your own sewing machine, it will need to be in working order, your tutor is not a technician, she can help with threading errors and minor adjustments but if there is a fault then the lesson will be stopped, the lesson cost will be rounded up to the nearest 1/2hr at this point, i.e if a lesson is 5 mins in when a fault is found you will pay for 1/2hr (plus any travel suppliment or parking fees if applicable.)

It's recomended you have a basic sewing kit of scissors, tape measure, pins ect, though Jenny will have a kitbag with lots of these items its always good to have your own.

A space for sewing. We recommend a well-lit area with a sturdy table and comfortable chair. Your dining table will often sufice, Don't worry if you're not sure about the setup, your tutor will help you with any adjustments needed to make your sewing experience comfortable and productive.

You will also need fabric, thread and any notions (zips, buttons ect) for your choosen project.

How Does It Work?

Once you schedule your At Home lesson, your tutor, Jenny, will arrive at your location at the agreed time, time is precious so make sure you've got your machine on the table ready and your fabric and sewing kit handy.

The lesson will be tailor-made to suit your skill level and personal sewing goals. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine advanced techniques, The lesson will advance at a pace to suit your learning, Jenny will guide you through the process step by step.

We will finish at the allotted time, then there is a small window of time to place another booking and pay for your lesson if you haven't already done so, however your tutor will need to leave fairly promptly to get to her next appointment, she will leave you to continue your sewing or pack away your machine.

Parking

Your tutor will need a place to park, street parking is ok even if it's the end of the street, or a carpark close by, but some areas of Bristol are notorious for having nowhere to park, so parking should be discussed at the time of booking, ie if a visitors permit is available,

Your tutor will look at parking options before agreeing to a Lesson and on rare occaisions, may decline because of this issue,

If parking is only available in a paid car park then the cost of the carpark will be added to your lesson cost.

Safety

Safety First,

Make sure your cable can reach the socket, if not make sure there is an extension lead, Trailing cables are a trip hazzard and sholud be kept at floor level to reduce the risk of injury to person or machine, (many a machine has fallen to the floor when a cable has been caught.)

All Electric cables used should be in good condition, cables that have exposed wires are a shock hazzard and your tutor reserves the right to ask for measures to be taken to improve safety and to end any lesson where safety can not be improved, full lesson cost will apply in this instance,

It should be noted that in the 14+ years I've been teaching I've never had to enforce this and I hope for the safety of myself and all my pupils I'm not in the position where I have to.
